January 23, 2012

Okay this letter is really long and I have some big news in it.
Monday:
After writing you guys we hung out at the church with the other elders most of the day.  In the evening we prepared for a trip to Pazarjik the next day.
Tuesday:
We got ready to head to Pazarjik in the morning.  We had a route planned out to see all the members as quick as we could (we can't contact in Pazarjik,) so we wouldn't waist time.  All we needed was some Liahonas to give to the members.  so we headed to the church to grab some.  While there we ran into the Zone leaders.  We told them what we were doing and they vetoed it. We are going to go over our plans on sunday because they didn't want to us to meet with people they had just met with.  So hopefully that will work out and we will be on next week. So for the rest of the day we attempted to contact but my energy was gone.  We did get a meeting though with a member and her less active friend so that helped end the day well for me.
Wednesday:
Today we were on splits with the District Leader adn his companion.  I was with Elder Furtado.  First we had district meeting and then lunch.  After district meeting and lunch we had a language study and then a meeting with a real estate lady.  Elders Furtadao and Brown are getting a new apartment and this meeting was to go over the contracts and see if everything was on track.  We then contacted and tracted the rest of the day until dinner.  This is were the big news comes from for this week.  Elders Furtado and Brown were staying at our place because their sink was broken.  So while we were eating dinner Elder Brown was talking with Sister Loss from Stara Zagora and we found out that four of our missionaries had been called that day to serve in Instanble, Turkey.  Thier names are Elders Huish, Chiristainsion (I think I spelled that wrong,) Seymour, and Redpath.  It is so exciting and it is so cool I am here to see church history happen.  They go at the end of this transfere (Feburary 14th) and will serve the rest of their missions there.  They can't openly proselite on the streets, but that isn't a problem because the branch president there has about 1,000 refferals of which they need to teach, so they will be busy.  For about half of the day while they are there they are going to learn Turkish at the university and the second half teach lessons and work with members.  This is so huge adn we are all super excited.  The four missionaries going are hard workers and amazing at the language so tehy shouldn't have to many problems.  Elder Redpath and Seymour have more than a year left and Elders Huish and Christaintion less than a year.  That is the big news and lets just say it was hard to go to sleep that night, but we managed.
Thursday:
Thursday was a normal day.  We surveyed in the morning as normal did some tasks in the afternoon and had Enlgish in the evening.  We did get lost in the after noon though trying to find Elder Young some new shoe laces.  During English I also learned some Bulgarian idoms that will help me a ton.  After English we had dinner and went to bed.
Friday:
Friday was a lot of fun.  Most of the day we were visiting a member in her Selo (village.)  We almost didn't make it though because Elder Young had written the Selo's name down wrong.  We figured it out though and got to the Selo just fine.  The members name is Gulabinka (means Pigeon or Dove) and she is around 80. She is a very sweet smart lady and can't come to church only because of distance and cost.  Other than that she is a very spiritual lady.  She also had 15 cats!  I I would make the cat call for food and they would all swarm me.  It was hilarious.  Dispite all the cats her house didn't smell like them at all.  We also helped her chop some wook and had a nice lesson with her.  We left after the lesson and once we got to Plovdiv we hurried over to another members house and had dinner with them.  Then we came home for bed.
Saturday:
Not much saturday.  We had Enlish in the morning and I helped with 1st level because I had no students in 3rd.  We then cleaned the church had lunch, weekly planned, contacted, cleaned our phone, had language study, dinner and went to bed.
Sunday:
Really just church and contacting.

Hey Everybody

Hey everybody ready to hear about my week.

Monday: After writing to you guys we hung out with the other elders all day.  At night we needed a ton of new cleaning supplies because we were all out so we went and got those.

Tuesday:
In the Morning we went out and contacted.  And in the Afternoon we contacted.  With Dimiter gone our teaching pool is down to one investagator who can't meet much.  So we are basically contacting all the time and meeting with as many members as we can.  At night though the Ap's came over to go on splits with us on Wednesday.  It was fun having them over and sorry mom but I pulled out some money to treat them to a nice dinner.

Wednesday:
So in the morning we had district meeting.  District Meeting was fun and afterwards we all went to this restruant  called the Golden Pear.  After eating Elder Morgan and I (yea he is Ap so I got to work with him again) went contacting all day. We got one persons number and a meeting with another.  It was good to talk with him again though and it was a fun day working with him.  In the Evening they left to go back to Sofia and we had language study and Dinner.

Thursday:
In the morning we Contacted, in the afternoon we did some tasks and in the evening we had english.  It was a good day just not much to mention.

Friday:
In the morning we did some contacting and then we had a meeting with a member name Ivan.  He is really cool and one of our youth here.  He also plans on serving a mission so that is really exciting.  After him we had lunch and weekly planning then we had another meeting with the branch clerk.  It was good to get to know him and we had a fun time looking at pictures.  After him we had to do some ward list work because we have a big excursion planned for Tuesday.  We are going to Pazarjik a city that was closed to visit the members there.  So we had to get them of of the ward list for Plovdiv and make one of our own so it would be easier to find them all.

Saturday:
In the morning we had English and I was helping teach first level this time.  It was fun and I really enjoyed it a lot.  We then cleaned the building extremely well because we had a youth activity that night in the church and it needed to be cleaned really bad.  We then had the activity.  We only played ping-pong, some other little games, and had Musacka.  It was really fun though and after wards I was exaughsted.

Sunday:
We first of all went to church and then after church it was contacting all day. Yea.

I am so grateful for all of your guy's letters and I wish you the best.

Love,
Elder Austin James Ewell

December 2011 Zone Conference

Happy New Year

Well New Years was amazing as always but the rest of the week sucked because no one would talk to us and all of our investigators were gone so here it goes anyways.

Monday:
After writing you guys we hung out the rest of the day, and then contacted at night.

Tuesday:
Well Tuesday was a pattern for the rest of the week.  Most of our day was spent preparing to advertise and advertising for English.  It was good and needs to be done but it isn't fun how it takes a huge chunk out of our week.  Luckily it is only once a transfer if that.

Wednesday:
Well aside for district meeting Wednesday was like Tuesday.  District meeting was good though and I enjoyed it a lot.

Thursday:
Well more English advertising and contacting.

Friday:
Well more English, but during weekly planning we managed to organize the members we are in charge of into a list.  This will help us a ton with being able to meet with them.

Saturday:
Well here is where the letter get long.  First of all we finished advertising for English!  Yea!  The next part deals with New Years here.  First of all New years here is like a war zone.  People all over the place fire of fireworks.  They even fire them at other people (I am talking about big ones too not just Roman Candles.)  So for our safety we were not allowed to work or were church cloths once it got dark.  So we had all the Elders in Plovdiv come to our place (Since there is enough room there,) we ordered pizza, and played games and watched movies until Midnight.  At Midnight we got on the roof of our apartment building to watch fireworks.  Well just like last year it was chaos.  There were fire works everywhere.  There were people shooting them off from their windows and balconies and even right next to our apartment building.  I will try to post the videos.  Also we saw some one who accidently set off fireworks in their apartment (nothing caught fire.)  It was crazy.  After it started to calm down (even though fireworks were going off all night) we went to bed.

Sunday:
Well Church wasn't till two and we couldn't contact because nobody is out in the morning New Years Day.  So we got ready and did some tasks then we went to church.  Church was good but we were stuck there the rest of the day so that sucked.

Well that was the week but now everything should be back to normal and no more breaks until I get home see you all then.

Love,
Elder Ewell
